HEFTY Records Releases Albums from TELEFON TEL AVIV & SAVATH & SAVALAS on 1320 Records

Folk Songs For Trains, Trees and Honey
S&S.php
Savath & Savalas: Folk Songs for Trains, Trees and Honey (March 2000) This debut album from Savath & Savalas was recorded in various bedrooms in both the Atlanta area and Brooklyn, NY — but is a far cry from low fidelity. The duo take a soulful and organic approach to electronic music, with most tracks being played live with minor adjustments on the desktop PC. The album is as progressive as it is retrospective, showing odes to R&B, soul, and hip hop in a simple and smooth atmosphere. Savath and Savalas is the multi-functional Scott Herren. This project is the alter ego of Delarosa+Asora, Herron’s evil twin, which will be released by the Miami based Schematic label. Scott is also Warp recording artist Prefuse 73. Essential.

Immediate Action #8
TEL1.php
Telefon Tel Aviv: Immediate Action #8 (November 2002) This 4 track EP includes 2 exclusive compositions by Telefon Tel Aviv, along with 2 superb remixes by Prefuse 73 and Slicker. Source material for the remixes was taken from Telefon’s top selling album, Fahrenheit Fair Enough, yet all music on this EP is exclusive to this release. ‘Sound In a Dark Room’ features vocals on a Telefon tune for the first time ever, with a guest appearance by Lindsay Anderson (member of L’Altra and Pulseprogramming, both of Chicago’s Aesthetics label). Lindsay’s collaboration here finds TTA delivering one of their best compositions to date, a slow and sultry burner… a perfect fusion of deep, dubbed out, electronic soul, an almost R&B groove, an intoxicating vocal, and a sexy Rhodes line that is simply irresistible. Slicker revisit the second cut from the album “TTV” and come fully correct, with fattest mid tempo beats, and double speed drums to further align the project with the flavour of melodic, almost jiggy, electronica. Scott Herren’s bonus beats sit perfectly with his body of work so far, chunking up the original into more hip-hop fuelled nuggets of quality. Immediate and very, very good. Only 700 copies exist of the original CD.

Map of What is Effortless
TEL2.php
Telefon Tel Aviv: Map of What is Effortless (January 2004) Map of What is Effortless is the second full-length album by American Electronica band Telefon Tel Aviv.  Joshua Eustis and Charlie Cooper devised one of the most surprising and accessible electronic records in recent memory, at once underground and incredibly mainstream.  Like all good adventures, Map of What is Effortless is diverse. From the Ron Isley-like vocal stylings of L.A. songwriter Damon Aaron and the detached chanteuse musings of L’Altra vocalist Lindsay Anderson on the big vocal cuts here (‘I Lied’ and ‘My Week Beats Your Year’) – to the juxtaposition of the Loyola University Chamber Orchestra with synthetic percussion on possibly the string drenched title cut. Map of What is Effortless is Telefon Tel Aviv flirting with big arenas and the homespun style of old, branching out from what they knew and cornering their muse with gorgeous results.

HEFTY Records Releases Third Installment of Albums on 1320 – VICTOR BERMON, SOLO ANDATA & RADICALFASHION

Arriving At Night

VB.php

Victor Bermon: Arriving At Night (February 2007) Release by Australian electronic composer, Victor Bermon. Arriving At Night is quite beautiful and simultaneously confounding to describe. With beats that at times manage to reference both sparse “post-techno” as well as jazzy gems unearthed in dusty crates, Bermon envelops everything in warm melodies and acoustic accents. Simple melodic motifs make this album the perfect soundtrack for a rainy evening at home.

Fyris Swan
SOLO.php

Solo Andata: Fyris Swan (July 2006) Fryis Swan is the debut album from Solo Andata, who is duo Paul Fiocco and Kane Ikin. A looming tapestry of undulating, post-rockian, free jazz-tinged, minutiae-detailing, electro-acoustic brilliance, Fyris Swan’s chest-tugging magnitude is a striking testament to the role of time, space, and technology in composition. Solo Andata’s restrained and measured efficacy benefits from their separation (members live in Australia and Sweden), as the labored deconstruction applied to every element forms the album’s hefty backbone. Each pluck and bowed, processed sound builds over an hour, culminating in the perfectly realized ‘Midnight.’

Odori
Rad.php
Radical Fashion: Odori (2006) Radical Fashion is the oddly unspaced pseudonym of Japanese producer and pianist Hirohito Ihara, who came up with possibly one of Hefty’s strongest album to date. Hefty have always been willing to slip and slide through genres, but Odori is truly unexpected; a record of careful digital manipulation, field recordings and piano rather than your usual beat-laden fare. It’s no bad thing either that the label chose this direction, and Ihara came up with an endearing stylistic mix, somewhere between the glacial minimalism of 12k or Raster Noton and the lush melodics of fellow Japanese musicians Nobukazu Takemura, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Susumu Yokota. Odori is a piano album that’s not afraid to do things a little differently, and is all the better for it.
